Purchased in January 2025. It’s Nov. 2025. Device is frustrating.
My husband must’ve given this a 5 star review. Echo Show device might have been good in January ’25, but she’s been frustrating ever since Nov ’25. She doesn’t respond unless you stand a few inches from her or YELL across the room. She takes about 30 seconds or more. When she does, it’s from another room. I find the device mostly frustrating. I’d never purchase this again. Pictures aren’t clear but they’re the best I could do.

Great Product, and you can save a bunch if you trade in an older device!
I actually used the “AMAZON TRADE IN” program to replace and older display that I been using for a few years. Setup was easy and too around 5 minutes to do. Once it was setup I was able to upgrade it to the NEWEST ALEXA release for free, and it is working great. The sound is better, and I believe the display is sharper. Personally I think it’s a little expensive, but I’m on early retirement/disability. I bought it to work with some smart bulbs and plugs to make things easier for myself. And since I had a older display to trade in, it saved me more that 50% off. I definitely recommend this display, and if you can use the “AMAZON TRADE IN” program, it will save you a LOT!

Well…. Its painful if you can handle the pain.
To be honest, this Echo Show 5 wasn’t what i expected it to be. If all you need is a bedside clock radio, get yourself the Echo Spot. If you need a voice controlled kitchen companion radio, get this Echo Show 5. If you are buying this echo show to be a multimedia consumption device, you will be crying all day, extremely frustrated by the laggy software, and the somewhat unresponsive touchscreen when the Mediatek processor within tries to process a lot of touch input. This is a great device for voice commands, and you seldom need another speaker to listen to the Echo Show 5. The machine can get loud, clarity of the single speaker is amazing for its size and has it has decent lows. This is why i say the Echo Show 5 makes great companion as a voice controlled kitchen radio. One thing to note however is that there is no way to reduce volume for Alexa’s voice. Software is meh…bearable at best. If you are looking for a media consumption device like watching movies, youtube etc, get yourself an iPad because an iPad is much better overall device than this thing. Amazon here have the idea… the implementation is the issue. For example, such a device as this Echo Show 5, with so much potential, why utilize a Mediatek processor similar to the one found in a kindle? The slow mediatek processor and horrible software reduce the potential of this device. If you are used to the convenient software that is android or iOS, this echo show 5 will frustrate you when you interact with it via its touchscreen. Lastly, YOUTUBE on this device isn’t a in-built app. You have to utilize Amazon’s painful silk browser to access the youtube website to interact with youtube.

Wish it stayed on after unplugged.
It’s overall ok. It’s laggy sometimes on touch screen. It has to stay plugged in or it shuts off. The speaker is amazing. It is so loud and the sound is so clear and I love that. The size is good if you don’t need anything too big and crazy.

Not worth it, get a newer one
Doesn’t work very well. I wasn’t aware this was an older model but why sell it if it doesn’t run? Won’t connect to the internet so I used my phone hotspot just to get it to function and even then it runs at the frame rate of an unconscious grandma at a marathon. The buttons on the screen don’t do anything and the apps are very limited. I wanted to use Spotify and you can’t operate anything in app, it’s only the last three playlists you’ve listened to on your phone. Super disappointed.

Don’t waste your time, money & frustration–just stick with the Echo Dot.
Echo Show 5 is terrible to use. The physical interface is clunky and slow and not the least bit intuitive. There is no way to physically navigate the menus except dragging down from the top of the screen. It’s laggy, and when the full menu does drop from the top of the screen it’s the only place you get to make choices such as going to home screen or opening up videos, pulling up your music choices etc. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have just made it like a tablet because that’s what it looks like… A tablet attached to a speaker. In fact, if it was a tablet attached to a speaker, it would work better! I was so frustrated with trying to use this Echo after thinking it was going to be such a blessing and a convenience over using only audio commands with my old Echo Dot. Boy was I wrong.Every time I tried to use the physical screen interface, there was laggy sluggish response time from the device and sometimes no response. After multiple swipes and touches to the screen. I got so frustrated with the screen failing to respond for being so slow, that had finally decided I would just stick with audio commands like it was my old Echo Dot. Unfortunately, even that was unresponsive or laggy more than half the time. I would call out to the device and it would hesitate to respond or I would have to say its name two or three times and raise my voice before I get a response from the device. I tried changing the name to the other options, like Echo, Amazon, etc, and there was no change. Even when the device would respond in a reasonable amount of time, something like requesting that the device play my normal Pandora station, there would be a 5-second period of silence while the blue line across the bottom was thinking before it would respond and play my station. Mind you, when it did finally feel like playing, it did sound decent and it was nice to be able to rate the music on the screen but that required walking across the room to it which defeats the purpose of convenience and I didn’t notice any improved quality of sound over the regular basic model of echo with no screen.I’m telling you, by day 2 with this speaker, I just couldn’t handle the laggy and unresponsive frustration anymore. I had to return it. I told myself it was something I could just get used to but I simply wanted to tear my hair out. It was such an inconvenience using this device that it actually made my quality of life worse by having it. Ironically, if I get another Echo, it’s going to be a classic, basic Echo Dot with no screen.I cannot believe Amazon is selling something with such SLOW or NON- responsiveness and such a clumsy physical interface on the screen. I have been window-shopping Amazon tablets like the Kindle Fire, etc. to replace my e-reader and act as a tablet for watching videos and basic online YouTube and research etc… But I can’t trust them with a tablet if this is what they do with the interface for a basic speaker-with-a-screen.Don’t get me wrong–I have wanted to try the Echo Show line for years and I desperately wanted to love this device. I actually wanted to return it by day 2 and they convinced me to think it over and give it another chance but I just can’t stand it. And I don’t see how they’re selling this as a modern version of the device with such poor performance. I just have to warn people that are thinking about buying this that if you absolutely want an Echo just get an Echo Dot. Yes, it’s vocal-commands-only, but it worked so, so, SO much better than the Echo Show 5.

    Amazon echo show model 5
I loved it, and it works great for checking the weather, viewing my camera, and playing music. You can ask it anything you want, and it answers instantly. The screen is sharp, and the sound is much better than expected for its size. Alexa responds quickly, and setup was very easy. Overall, a great addition to my smart home setup. And it’s easier for my alarm or any reminder. I love it.

This home assistant is excellent. You can use it for a variety of applications. It makes a great hub for Alexa approved security products. I however returned it because they had one paired with a Blink camera which was a better value. Regardless I highly recommend it.

Upgraded from a regular echo to this in kitchen. Love it, especially having visual reminders of any timers set, being able to watch movies etc. only downside is no Netflix.

The stand is a no brainer as it allows the screen to be easily seen especially in the dark.
