Super Slick and Truly Apple HomeKit Compatible (with limits)
PROS:First, I’ve read many, many articles, reviews and viewed twice as many videos searching for the best Apple HomeKit compatible smart lock. I did my homework.Bingo – Schlage Encode Plus kept coming up as the one to purchase. The “Plus” means it Apple HomeKit compatible. I bought two. I agree hands down I made the correct purchase. They have worked seamlessly from install to setup. It took longer to install (15 minutes changing out hardware, etc) than to connect to HomeKit (2 minutes). Neither was complicated or frustrating! The connectivity has been seamless. I had a need to set up temporary Codes for others including limits to what days and hours, expiration date, etc. and when miles away from home lock or unlock the door, all done easily and successfully through HomeKit App.Schlage has a wealth of information on install and setting up and connecting to HomeKit. Start first with downloading the Schlage App. Also, they have great interactive instructions available walking you through step by step. All this makes for a successful install and operation.CONS:As for features, the only downside is getting geofence capabilities to work seamlessly in HomeKit and this appears to be because of security protections with HomeKit. Overkill, let the user decide. There is no information out there about this. The focus seems to be tap your phone or watch to lock/unlock while you are standing there (can also use Siri inside, etc) but NOT on setting up Scenes and Automations which is the weak link. When set up in Scenes with my other items, lamps, etc. nothing worked properly with Automation automatically due to the “alert” that pops up on iPhone screen asking if you want to execute the Automation. For example, pulling into or out of the garage and driveway “Scene” for lock or unlock Schlage locks, turn on or off lights, etc. I have to confirm execution of Scene on my iPhone pop up notification! Bummer. I had to remove the locks from the “Scene” and all was back to normal. An alert still pops up for the locks asking to confirm. This needs improvement holistically. I’m still seeking solutions and I’m sticking with my purchases. Also, Schlage only includes one key with the lock. At this price point, two keys would be appropriate.UPDATE: 08-10-2025: Through a Siri command on my phone or watch and also via CarPlay, I’m able to lock and unlock the door(s) upon leaving and/or returning home, pulling into or out of the driveway, etc. Though I don’t consider this HomeKit Automation, it’s a work around. I’m still satisfied with my purchase.

Worth the price
I bought two of these for my home. Top quality with Schlage as usual, and not difficult to set up. Easy to replace AA batteries. Syncs with Alexa. Price is a bit high but worth it, I replaced another brand that was cheaper and had quality and functional issues. Also coordinates with other Schlage doorknobs. You can set up a guest passcode for others to use temporarily, which is nice, also works with Apple Watch.

Decent lock with terrible battery life
I have a couple other older Schlage smart locks. They look nice and work fairly well. This one adds NFC touch unlock which is great when my hands are full, I can just tap my watch to it to lock/unlock.I don’t like the keypad as much as the earlier models, it seems to lack something. The battery situation is the biggest drawback but also a slight improvement. It eats through batteries at twice the rate (or higher, maybe 3x) than the other locks, which go at least a year between changes. They did improve the battery bay, the last one had a nine volt connector on a super thin cable that breaks really easy…fortunately I found a replacement battery holder on amazon for cheap. this one connects by inserting, no cable connection needed, so at least that help (considering how often it needs batteries this would have been a real problem likely)The Schlage app is uneven. I can’t seem to find a way to set access codes to multiple locks at once, so I have to connect, wait, add the name and the code, wait, repeat with the other locks.

Super-convenient. Best home tech I’ve installed.
These things are great. Originally bought 2 for my house, and have now installed them on multiple rental properties and houses of family members.Features I like best:Touch-pad entry (never have to carry a key)Touchless entry using an iPhone or Apple WatchEasy to manage visitors (temp access, and recurring access)Could use improving:a bit annoying to manage users across Apple Home and the Schlage app.DetailsInstallation of this deadbolt is very straightforward- it fits a standard deadbolt hole in most residential doors. Connecting it to WiFi is simple also. That makes it easy to use the Schlage app to manage access codes. At this point you could be completely done. From the Schlage app, you can configure individual access codes, including Always-On, recurring (eg every Tuesday from 3pm to 6pm) and temporary (eg until Sept 30th, 2025). I’ve found this combination to be pretty much everything I need.In our house, we’ve gone as far as assigning unique codes for Amazon, UPS, and FedEx, so that they can place packages inside. I also find the temporary access to be helpful- when someone comes to visit, I give them a temp access code, and it automatically expires so I don’t have to worry about having a million codes out in the wild. I’ve also opened the door remotely when a repair person arrived early and called from in front of the house. I was away from home, but was able to use the app to let him in.We have also taken advantage of the Apple Homekit integration, so that the lock can open with an Apple iPhone or Apple Watch. Being able to just tap my watch to the lock and open the door is fantastic. Two caveats about the Homekit integration:1) it requires an Apple TV or HomePod connected to the same wifi. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to buy that separately.2) Be aware that the Homekit integration is slightly clunky. Apple users show up as “homekit-5398a8e” in the Schlage app, whereas users created directly in Schlage can have their real names. You have to manage the homekit users separately in the homekit app, but that side knows nothing about the other users. Homekit also doesn’t support temp access or time of day/ recurring access- it’s all on, until you tell it to turn off access for that person. Not a deal breaker, but hard to explain to my in-laws.Still, it’s worth getting and pushing through the less-than-perfect bits because having this installed is a game changer at home.

La instalación es sencilla (si ya tienes el agujero en la puerta ) y la configuración también es muy simple. Requiere homepod para que varios miembros de la familia entren con su iPhone, sin este sólo se puede configurar 1 iPhone

It worked for 6 months – bought it in Feb 2025. Now the touchscreen will randomly not work and i have to remove the battery pack and reinsert to get it working. No warning as to when it will fail. My previous Schalge touchscreen lasted more than 10 years. Total disappointment as the return period is over and no warranty from Amazon. I just saw other 1 star reviews who have the same problem. AMAZON should respond to this.
