Fast Time Machine back-ups!
This little drive is awesome! I am replacing a WD external hard drive that I used for Time Machine back-ups for at least 6 years. That drive started to fail. I found this drive with a prime deal, paired with the great reviews, I figured I would give it a shot. I cannot believe how small it is, which is excellent. The speed at which this backs up my computer is amazing. The first backup took about 10 minutes, whereas my old drive would take hours. Obviously, I cannot speak on longevity, but so far, I am impressed!

I recently purchased the X10 Pro for use with my MacBook Pro (M4 Pro chip), and I’m thoroughly impressed. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:System Setup: I’m running a 16-inch MacBook Pro (Space Black) equipped with the M4 Pro chip featuring a 14-core CPU, 20-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, paired with 24GB unified memory and a 1TB SSD. My system also includes Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3—a powerhouse configuration that provides excellent compatibility with high-speed external devices like the X10 Pro. These specs allowed me to fully leverage the drive’s capabilities during testing, ensuring accurate performance validation.Performance: The X10 Pro delivers exceptional speeds, meeting and even exceeding its advertised claims of 2100 MB/s read and 2000 MB/s write. Using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, I observed write speeds of 2136 MB/s and read speeds of 2346 MB/s in optimized workloads like ProRes 422 HQ and Blackmagic RAW at 1080P HD resolutions. Real-time averages during general usage (as shown on the test’s odometer gauges) were around ~830 MB/s write and ~911 MB/s read, which still reflects solid performance under varied tasks.Usage and Setup: I ran my tests utilizing a 300GB partition created in Disk Utility, with the rest of the drive reserved for virtual machine partitions and Time Machine backups. In one backup, I transferred 51.17GB in just 7 minutes—a testament to this drive’s speed and reliability. For high-demand tasks like VMs and backups, the X10 Pro is a rock-solid performer.Heat Dissipation: During extended testing with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test (30 minutes), the drive became warm to the touch—noticeable but not alarming. The heat level is reasonable and well within expectations for a high-speed external drive. While it won’t double as a hand warmer on a freezing day, it performs efficiently without concerns about overheating.Included Cable: The drive comes with a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C to C cable, supporting speeds up to 10 Gbps on compatible devices. Full USB 3.2 Gen2 2×2 performance (up to 20 Gbps) requires a specific USB-C host port, which many devices—including my MacBook Pro—don’t support. No firmware updates can be installed with a Mac built AFTER 2012.
Do not buy Crucial Drives for Mac. They give absolutely NO support for Mac. No firmware updates for Mac. Only supply firmware updates through windows computers.1 hr 22 minutes and no remedy other than reformatting/wiping the drive. And as stated in other reviews this doesn’t work. The offer to replace the drive is also not acceptable. They want my disk first which has 3.5 gb of photos on it. I’m not sending my disk (even if I could some how erase the photos) to a warehouse and a guy who I can hardly understand through the accent and who finally admitted he’s in India. Besides the fact that there are many reviews that they either won’t send a replacement, or it takes months and months to receive. The replacement probably won’t work either. Or if it does work it may stop if Apple updates Mac OS again with no Mac software to do updates.Crucial admitted that there have been two firmware updates this year. Both of which cannot be updated with a Mac. I expect this is just a total loss for me. But allowing this product to be advertised in a way that misleads consumers gives me motivation to leave informative reviews on every platform so other potential buyers know that the advertised claims that this product is compatible with Mac is a stretch at best. But in my opinion a downright lie. They know the issues and don’t care of course.Update 11/18/2025: received an email saying it’s possible with a long process to update firmware on Mac.BUT ONLY if you have a Mac with an internal SuperDrive.The last MacBook sold with an INTERNAL SuperDrive was in 2012.What a joke. That’s what they want to say is “effortlessly compatible with Mac”Mac users may want to consider a class action lawsuit with the amount of complaints here and elsewhere.Now it appears they are removing the review I left in their website. No problem as I will be leaving reviews everywhere I can. This company is not to be trusted.Update, the following are actual paragraphs emailed to me from Crucial:“Please note that no compatibility issues have been identified with Crucial SSDs on Mac. All SSDs are thoroughly tested by Crucial before being recommended for any system.”“Our products are designed to work with macOS, and many customers successfully use them on Mac devices. However, certain advanced functions such as firmware updates currently require a Windows environment. This is due to technical limitations in macOS that prevent us from offering the same update process natively. We recognize this can be frustrating.”My response:1st paragraph: How do all of you with a Mac that purchased this drive and it doesn’t work feel about what’s said here?There is absolutely no way Crucial is not aware of issues Mac users are having. Outright lie.2nd paragraph: “MANY customers successfully use them on Mac devices” So it sounds like an admission that it works on Mac for MANY customers but not all. Hope if you buy it you’re one of the lucky MANY Mac users that they work for AND NOT for MANY Mac users they don’t work for.Then trying to blame Apple for the fact that they don’t know how or care to make a firmware installer for Mac. I’ve had plenty of devices that the firmware was updatable through Mac.The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enforces truth in advertising laws, which require that advertisements be truthful and not misleading. If a business engages in false advertising, the FTC can take action, including issuing warning letters or pursuing legal penalties.

Made my games smoother
I’m happy with this product, I do feel like it has made my games run better even though I don’t use a gaming laptop. I play fortnite, GTA V, and resident evil 4 and my graphics processor and CPU really aren’t the best. I recently downloaded COD war zone so if I can edit this review I will let you know how it runs with this SSD

Om man ansluter den till ett vanligt UDSB-C uttag, reduceras hastigheten avsevärt. Den måste kopplas till ett USB-C 3.2 uttag och med rätt kabel om man ska få ut all prestanda.Men om den kopplas in korrekt, då är den riktigt snabb och blir heller inte het som många andra externa SSD.Mycket bra support från Crucial!
