Great Unit
This has been a great unit. It does VLAN configurations very easily. Per port and virtual work well. It can be a bit confusing in that a VLAN is configured separately from the Port VLAN Id. I especially like the monitoring functions. It has a cable test that will tell you the quality of the cable and the distance to any cable cut. It also has a simple port statistics view that points out errors by port. These functions came in handy when I had a bad cable on one link. You can also easily setup up to 8 LAG port groups each with 4 port members (4 x 1GB). They don’t seem to be constrained to consecutive ports as other switches. I’ve been pleased with this purchase and it has served me well so far.

Works as expected for the price I paid
I bought this for it’s VLAN functionality, and for me, it works great. I was originally using a few 8 port HP Switches to manage my network of: HDMI over Ethernet, Tivo BOLT with 2 mini-bolts, 4 IP security camera’s, NAS for network storage and NVR, 2 Dell Servers for Database & Web development, and my desktop, plus all TV’s that connect to Internet Streaming via Ethernet. It could be a bit chatty at times, and we noticed it on occasion. I have my setup isolating a few items while giving access to the internet on port 24.I’m not sure why people have an issue with VLAN 1, yes it’s the default for all ports but, if you configure all your ports to a new VLAN, then each port will only see data on it’s VLAN setup. Yes, VLAN 1 does get all traffic, but if a port is not configured to access VLAN 1, it does not see any of that traffic. My IP video distribution is a good example, it is setup to be isolated from any other port. Those ports assigned to that VLAN don’t see any other port traffic. And because all my other ports are assigned to other VLAN’s except VLAN 1, nothing else can access those video feeds. This is far from an Enterprise Switch with VLAN support, but it’s also far less expensive too. For a home office or small business, I think this is a great smart switch.

Great addition to home server rack
This unit is a great 24 port Gigabit switch for home server rack usage. It is sturdily built and the side panels are easy to attach for rack mount use cases. The web GUI is intuitive and easy to use to verify each port is configured correctly for the mbps usage you want. An important note if you are plugging this switch into your router: you will not be able to access the web GUI with the provided default IP address (192.168.0.1). Your router will assign an IP within the IP range via DHCP. To log in to the web GUI, you will need to find the IP address by logging into your router. The only item of concern was that some of the package contents had a fishy odor to it, literally. A fish-like odor from electronics can indicate faulty or failing electronic components. Since this unit was fresh out of the box, I am not concerned that this unit has failing components. I assume the scent was due to hot storage conditions which could be a potential concern for long term use. Overall, a great addition to my home server rack.

Good Value
I’ve been running this in my home office for a while now, and it’s been pretty straightforward. For not much more than the price of an unmanaged switch, this one has some useful management features. I haven’t done that much with it other than to set a static IP, aggregate bandwidth across a couple ports, and stuff like that. But it has done everything I need it to do, and the management interface is easy to understand. It comes with ears for rack mounting and fits properly in 1U. I don’t notice any throughput issues, which I have encountered occasionally with low-cost switches. For the money, I think it’s a good product. One observation: technologies like port aggregation or SMB multichannel will use up switch ports in a hurry. Don’t be afraid to buy more ports than you think you need. I’m OK with 24, but 32 wouldn’t have been a bad idea.

Good Switch for the Price
I’ve been a late adopter for TP-Link products, but since having been overall pretty pleased with the AX-6000 wireless router, I figured I would try this switch. I originally purchased a Zyxel for quite a bit more with fewer ports and features but then determined I needed a smarter switch (specifically, one with IGMP snooping). This one does the job well, was easy to set up, is sturdily made, and has a modest number of features, and an ample number of ports (for home use)… especially for the price. Note that the default IP is 192.168.0.1, which is probably going to conflict with your router or some other device. For business, this is far less likely, but home use, it’s a strong possibility.
