Good for clone hero(and can apparently run raceroom!!)
I got this for my clone hero setup. I occasionally use it for minor computer functions but mostly just clone hero. I should’ve gotten the one with bigger storage for barely more money but overall this works really well, I was easily able to navigate everything to add the games, and all the songs from the original games with lots of space left. Haven’t used it for other games because I’d quickly run out of space. Overall works perfect for clone hero though.Edit: I’ve now had it for several months. When playing clone hero don’t expect crazy high fps. Fps with everything else turned off and settings good is 250-300. That’s with no video background also. With a video background it’s 150-200 fps. It also randomly slows down and then fast forwards or straight up skips a little. It’s usable but a little frustrating when you start to get really good. Id definitely like to have something with more storage and definitely ram because this RAM is showing that just having CH open uses 100% of RAM. Now to the computer aspects. It works totally fine as a normal computer, but gets slow when you start adding other apps. I couldn’t use high power computer games and even mobile ones sometimes froze. It also really slowed down opening tabs and stuff and just navigating anything is a little slow. It still works fine but it could definitely use a little more space and processing power.Second edit: I recently started sim racing and was running it on my laptop since I don’t have an actual PC, and just for the heck of it I downloaded raceroom on this thing and hooked up my g29 and… It’s running pretty much as well as it does on my $1k laptop. I have switched over my setup to this instead because it’s easier and runs it basically as well, and basically never crashed, whereas my laptop crashed frequently. This mini PC is way too good for its price.Overall still a good little PC you can use anywhere, and for the price really is remarkable. Yes I have complaints but I will not be reducing my stars because for the price it performs better than I expected. My update is more to let other clone hero players, or people buying this to game, that you probably want a little more than what this has. Although the price is unbeatable if you get it on sale. I got mine for about $120. (After second update this is less true. For most games this does underperform and you’ll want something better. But it randomly is really really good at certain games. It runs clone hero AND raceroom better than my main computer. Originally was 4 stars but will now be 5 stars)

It works as advertised
I have various Windows 10 devices that are not upgradeable to Windows 11 so I purchased this with the intention of making this my new anchor Windows PC (I’m primarily a Mac user) and I plan on only using it for basic word processing, web browsing, and activities better suited to the Windows world. This is a preliminary rating as I received this device just yesterday. Packaging was professional and set up/personalization straight forward using a USB wireless Logitech Key/Mouse. Bluetooth setup for my Harman Kardon speaker and other bluetooth devices failed (wouldn’t recognize anything discoverable) so I next began the lengthy process of Windows updating (actually still happening) and the bluetooth issue resolved itself somewhere along the way. So, beyond the bluetooth issue, this mini PC has been flawless, speedy, quiet, and has gotten only mildly warm during operation. I ran 5 YouTubes videos simultaneously as a test without issues. The system says it is running Windows 11 Pro, it has 475GB of storage (512 was advertised), 16GB memory, and the N150 chip. I’m on Google Fiber and my speed check was something like 400+ down/300+ up from the opposite side of the house from the router. I have NOT yet checked the other ports (USBs/HDMI/LAN).I’m not a computer geek so I can only share my ‘user’ experience as I compare this with my other devices (Macs/Chromebooks/Windows) and there have been no discernible performance issues.Wrapping up, so far, and comparing price vs. performance, I am happy with my purchase.

Not a winner, but customer support was amazing (as always)
Because I work from home, I require something with slightly a bit more power. Will this unit be good for most casual users? Absolutely. It’s a great unit, but because of the intensity of my WFH VMware and other virtual desktops, this little guy just didn’t have enough power. However, this is to no fault of the unit, and most likely the fault of the programs I have installed, so I am currently in the process of working with GMKtec to resolve this issue.Even though this item didn’t meet my specific needs, I wasn’t upset about it – I was more frustrated with myself for not doing a bit more research.Bright side? Working with GMKtec (if you’ve ever emailed their support, you know the guy I speak of! J is probably the reason for most of the 5 star reviews on here!) has resolved this issue, in a seamless, hassle-free way.I recommend this unit for those who don’t need a lot of power, and are more of a casual PC user – You’ll enjoy this unit. But if you, like me, are a tech guy who does a LOT of work on his pc, this may not be the best for you.I’m already looking forward to my next purchase from GMKtec! If you’re looking for an amazing pc that doesn’t take up a lot of space, and can keep up with larger, more bulky desktops, and even outperform them, you won’t find anything better than GMKtec. Thanks to assistance from GMKtek, I was currently in the process of ordering the M5 unit. This one is more ideal, as it has a larger RAM capacity, and can keep up with my virtual desktops! Having researched the 16 GB of ram this unit has, I am confident that it will allow me to resume my work with ease.Users may also enjoy the fact that the M5 unit is Ryzen based, not Intel, which removes some of the limitations that Intel has on their PCs. While the M5 is not a heavy-duty gaming unit (It’s unlikely it will play the latest AAA games) but casual gamers will find the Nucbox M5 unit’s Radeon Vega will definitely be enough for older games. The price is affordable, and the Nucbox M5 unit currently has a rating of 5 stars. Almost unheard of for technology! But this is GMKtec we’re speaking of here. Quality items with incredible support plus a 1-year warranty = Massive win for their customers!Note: This is not a paid endorsement for GMKtec – Just the honest words of a true fan of this business.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the GMKTec G9, a device that seeks to integrate the functionalities of a mini PC and a NAS. As a Linux user and someone who has GMKTec devices already (G3 and an M5) that are performing splendidly, I have a particular interest in its potential for Linux-based applications. I have a homelab setup with Proxmox, and this device looks to be well-suited to this architecture. The device’s compact form factor is immediately notable. Its small size is advantageous, particularly where there is limited workspace. The design is generally clean and understated.A primary feature of interest for the GMKtec G9 is its storage capacity. The inclusion of four M.2 slots allows for the installation of substantial high-speed solid-state storage. For Linux users, this facilitates a range of storage configurations, including diverse file systems, RAID arrays, and the potential for virtualization. The unit is shipped with Ubuntu pre-installed on the internal 64GB EMMC. The availability of an internal drive for the OS install (Ubuntu, Proxmox, etc.) is beneficial. This leaves the M.2 slots free for ZFS, RAID, and other storage configurations. Ideally suited to a TrueNAS or OpenMediaVault install. The device is equipped with an Intel N150 processor, which is more than adequate for server-oriented tasks, such as home server operation, media streaming (e.g., Plex). Thermal management is a consideration, particularly with the installation of four NVMe drives. I anticipate that the addition of low-profile heatsinks to the drives may be necessary to maintain optimal operating temperatures under heavy load.In terms of connectivity, the inclusion of dual 2.5GbE ports is a significant advantage. This feature is highly desirable for robust home server configurations. The device also provides a range of USB ports and HDMI outputs, enabling its use as a traditional desktop system if required. From a Linux user’s perspective, the GMKtec G9 presents a compelling combination of versatility, compact size, and reasonable cost. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of exploring its capabilities as a home server platform and investigating its potential for various Linux-based applications. To get an idea of how things would work in my environment, I first installed TrueNAS. This was a little tricky, having to install an older version to get the install to work on the eMMC. Once installed, it performs well, having added Plex to the mix. Network and Disk performance were as expected. Next, I installed Proxmox (again having to tweak the install to get it to install to the eMMC) and added it to my cluster. I migrated a Windows 11 VM to the G9 and was impressed with the speed.Lastly, installed a pfSense VM and plan on using the dual 2.5G NIC to modernise my firewall config.I now plan to replace my clunky EliteDesk and hard drive setup with the G9 after adding some more NVMe storage. All in all, impressed with the capabilities.

I’m someone who’s used to working with a traditional desktop setup, and so, I was skeptical about how well a mini-PC like the Nucbox G3 would work for me. However, after having it for a few weeks, I can say with confidence that this little box has blown me away with its performance, especially considering its price-point.SetupInitially after I opened the box, I was impressed with its compact size and sleek design. Setting up this computer was a breeze; it comes pre-installed with Windows 11 and the SSD allows for the booting of the computer to be very fast. Overall, the computer was extremely easy to get up and running, just plug it in, boot it up, and go through a quick Windows 11 setup and you’re ready to start using the computer.Price-to-PerformanceWhat sells this little computer for me is the price-to-performance ratio. The cheapest option is only ~$266CAD (8GB RAM 256SSD) and the most expensive option is ~$350CAD (16GB RAM 1TB SSD) at the time this review was being written. Wifi and BT is integrated. You can connect two 4K screens and run 4K videos on both at the same time. The noise from the cooling fan is negligible since it throttles according to load. Generally, in this price range, you wouldn’t find a computer nearly as good and especially not within such a small and compact size. The fact that is comes pre-installed with Windows 11 is just the cherry on top. This is great computer that costs less than some smartphones, yet I feel not any compromise.SizeThe Nucbox G3 is incredibly small, which makes it great for creating a “hidden” setup. You can just stick it to the back of your monitor and create a “hidden” PC setup and if you have a wireless keyboard and mouse, you can also create a “wireless” setup. As well as being great for creating a “hidden” setup this computer is also great as a media computer. Stick it to the back of your TV, connect a wireless media keyboard and you got yourself a media setup. Another great thing about the small size of this computer is its portability, taking this computer somewhere else and setting it up is just so easy compared to a regular computer because of its size. This computer is a great middle-grounds between a laptop and a regular desktop PC. Overall, the small and compact size of this computer fosters many benefits and allows for a variety of different setups you can create.ConclusionHonestly, if someone had switched my PC with the Nucbox G3 and didn’t let me know, I probably wouldn’t even notice a difference in my day-to-day use. It’s a really great computer and I have nothing bad to say about it at this point because it is serving me very well. You’re likely not going to be doing intense gaming on this (although you could do some casual, light gaming pretty well on this thing). From its quick and easy setup to its compact size I was delighted all the way through.
