This is absolutely a bargain based on my search across the internet. The quality of the HDD is excellent—it’s helium-filled, enterprise-level, runs quietly, and passed the pre-clear check in my Unraid system.I bought the 14TB model on Black Friday for $169.99. I couldn’t find anything cheaper with this quality that wasn’t a renewed HDD. I think the quality is even better than the WD Red Plus. I hope it lasts long enough. Highly recommended!

Dependable after several years
Bought mine several years ago, works fine. Don’t use it often, mostly for major several times a year backups. It’s quiet and relatively fast for that.

Perfect for theater setups. Not great for PC/Desktop.
Looking for a large storage device to hold all of my media this works great. I would not use it as direct storage on your PC however, as this requires an external power brick and is kind of a pain to place because of the size. The noise it emits is also annoyingly loud if you care about having a somewhat silent setup. Otherwise, it works perfect for storing TV shows and movies for your theater. So far it has not died on me or shown any signs of degradation. The transfer speeds are also pretty good (as long as your device supports the USB3 port).

I got this to backup my entire server so I can keep an offsite backup at work. I have been using WD external drives for quite a long time and like the format and portability of these drives. Haven’t noticed any issue with overheating and the quality of WD have been always treated me well. I like that these use USB 3 for connections which helps with large file transfer. Good durability.

My favorite brand of hard drive
I love this particular brand of external hard drives. I had an 8TB and the moment it filled up, I knew I was going to come back to this same model, just bigger.I had no trouble with it not being recognized by my computer, and it’s very reliable. The other one I had for about 6 years with no issues other than needing more space. Top tier hard drive for day-to-day use!

The real value comes from the fact that these are not merely consumer grade hard drives. They are server/enterprise quality. Inside the enclosure is a 3.5″ platter, helium filled hard drive. The model inside my enclosure is WD140EDGZ. These drives are much more expensive if bought bare (no enclosure). They are perfect for shucking (removing the bare drive and using in a desktop). See photo of the bare 3.5″ drive post-shuck.I ran diagnostics and everything was perfect. No complaints so far. I picked up a handful of these and plan to use them in a file server. If you want a very good and reliable HD, this one is a steal (especially if shucked).

The drive is compact and easy to use – just plug it into my computer’s USB port and I’m good to go. The 4TB of storage is more than enough for my needs, and the transfer speeds are reasonable for a standard 5400rpm HDD..One thing that initially concerned me was the drive’s tendency to get hot during use. However, I have used it extensively over the past few weeks and have not experienced any issues with overheating.In terms of value, I believe the WD 4TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 High Capacity Hard Drive offers excellent value for the price and the high capacity and decent transfer speeds make it well worth the investment.
